Fiddle music and Josquin Desprez

Both Cape Breton fiddle music (for example; there are other fiddle traditions that could be similarly described) and the Miss Pange Lingua of Josquin Desprez (again, one of many possible example from medieval and renaissance European music) have a strong (though not heavy) and distinct pulse underlying a rhythmically free and often syncopated melody. ‘Dance-y’. Whenever I hear the phrase ‘solemn joy’, I think of these kinds of music.—Hey, and what about Perotin?? Antecedent certainly of many, but particularly of Josquin, one imagines?
